Gonzaga High School officially opened for classes on September 4, 1962.


In order to properly celebrate this special occasion a 50th Anniversary Committee has been established to plan and execute an ambitious schedule of activities.


As many know, thousands of students have passed through the halls of Gonzaga High School and we want to recognize the school and our teachers who have influenced and shaped our lives during this celebratory year.


This website will contain information on the school's history, our teachers past and present, activities for the year and general information of interest to all.

50th Anniversary Open House

Come to the open house at the school on Thursday July 26th, from 3pm-8pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online here. There will be music, food, good times and stories.

Mass Sunday May 6th at St. Pius X

We are having our mass this Sunday at St. Pius X church. Mass begins at 2pm and there will be coffee and tea to follow in the Parish Hall.

50 Years of Talent

In addition to out star studded lineup, Jake Palasvirta, class of 2005 and Emily Follett, class of 2004 are flying in to perform at the event.

Tom McGrath Scholarship

A group of like-minded graduates and friends wish to celebrate the school's 50th Anniversary by establishing the Tom McGrath Scholarship Fund in honour of the school's former graduate, Alumnus of the Year,and long-time Assistant Principal.Tom, who recently retired after over 30 years of service to Gonzaga ,provided unprecedented pasion, initiative and leadership to the school.The scholarship will be awarded annually at the Graduation Ceremonies to a deserving graduate based on academics, leadership and community involvement.

To date , in excess of $30,000 has been raised towards the fundraising goal of $100,000. In order to achieve our fundraising target we need your support.. Your generous contribution will not only help recognize exceptional students but also provide these young people with the the opportunity to begin their studies towards a post secondary education. .In addition , with your support this scholarship will also serve as a lasting tribute to Tom McGrath's unparalleled contribution to Gonzaga and equally importantly, to the thousands od students who have passed through its doors over the years.

Scholarship funds will be segregated from school funds and managed in accordance with the existing non-profit professional practice by an independent Committee. Contributions to the scholarship can be made in four installments over a two year period. A tax receipt for your donation will be issued . Gonzaga 50th Anniversary Co-Chairs Announced

The Co-Chairs for the 50th Anniversary are prominent St. John's lawyer Erin Breen (Class of 1992) and President (Atlantic Region) Rogers, Ken Marshall (Class of 1979).

Erin Breen

Erin Breen is a graduate of the class of 1992. Erin went on to complete degrees at Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of New Brunswick Law School. Erin began practicing criminal defence law in 2003 at Simmonds + Partners Defence in St. John's. Erin volunteers with the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted (AIDWYC), a national non-profit organization based in Toronto dedicated to the identification and rectification of wrongful murder convictions. Erin also volunteers on the Board of Directors of MacMorran Community Centre.

Ken Marshall

Ken is a proud Viking alumnus (Class of '79) and the President - Atlantic Region for Rogers Communications Inc., one of Canada's largest telecom companies. Ken has been with Rogers (and formerly Cable Atlantic) for 20 years, and prior to that worked in Montreal with The Institute of Canadian Bankers. He holds an MBA from Dalhousie University, and a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Ken is Chairperson for Special Olympics - Newfoundland Labrador, is a Member of the Board of Regents of Memorial University, and also is a Board member of Nalcor Energy, Canada's 4th largest generator of electricity, and serves on the Board of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council. Ken and his wife Andrea live in St. John's with their three children, Andrew, Erin and Matt. And having Chaired JUNO 2010 in St. John's is now turning to co-leading the Gonzaga Vikings 50th anniversary celebrations.

World Record Attempt & Logo Unveiling by Danny Williams to kick-off Gonzaga 50th Anniversary

Gonzaga High School and its Alumni will kick-off celebrations of the school's 50th Anniversary on FRIDAY, MAY 27, 2011 at 9:45 A.M. by attempting to set a Guinness World Record for Gaga Ball. Gaga Ball is similar to dodge ball except it is played inside an octagonal shaped pen and players are eliminated after being hit below the knee with the ball.
